Tropical system to bring rain to Central Florida

Wave not expected to reform into Tropical Storm Chantal

ORLANDO, Fla.Chantal is no longer a tropical storm, but the system will bring clouds and rain to Central Florida this weekend.

On Thursday, the tropical wave continued its trek toward the Sunshine State after unleashing heavy rains in parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where thousands were evacuated from flood-prone areas.

Local 6 meteorologist Troy Bridges says the remnants of Chantal will mainly stay off the Florida coast, and it's not expected to reform into a tropical storm.

"Clouds and rain will be building across Central Florida on Friday into Saturday, lasting into part of Sunday," he said.

There's a 50 percent coverage of rain Thursday through Sunday in the Orlando area.

Thursday night flood advisories were issued in Marion County because of large amounts of rainfall in the area.

High temperatures will be in the low 90s into next week, with lows in the mid-70s.
