UCF takes on other Florida schools in flu shot competition
Students get free vaccines on campus
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida on Wednesday competed against other public Florida universities to see which school can administer the most flu shots in a single event.
UCF provided free vaccines from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Student Union on the main campus.
Dozens of UCF students and staff members lined up Wednesday morning for their free shots. The goal was to administer at least 1,000 flu shots at UCF.
Freshman Birwa Patel said she's confident UCF will take the title.
"That's so helpful to me because I don't have time to go out of my day and find someone to give me a flu shot, so it's helpful that they're here," Patel said.
UCF nurse Susanna Bryan said thousands die from the flu every year.
"We don't feel like it's going to be easy this year because just when you let your guard down that's when everything goes wrong," Bryan said.
UCF finished in second place, behind the University of South Florida.
Here are the final standings:
The official standings are:
- USF: 1,181
- UCF: 838
- FSU: 767
- UF: 676
