Jeff McAdam joined the Local 6 team as a news reporter in January of 2015.
Jeff’s move to Orlando comes from just 90 miles down Interstate 4 from Tampa where he worked as a sports reporter at Bay News 9. As a result, Jeff has quickly embraced the culture and community here in Central Florida.
In his own words:
My dad once asked me, "If you love to do something, why not find a way to get paid to do it?” I’ve been fortunate enough to make that a reality since becoming a television reporter in 2008.
Before starting in television, I slipped on some flip-flops and paddled my way to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, to attend the University of Hawaii. Later, I would transfer home, and finish with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
It was in college that I learned two things about myself. I love telling other people’s stories and I love the ocean. So, naturally, moving to Florida was the perfect fit.
My television career started in Cheyenne, Wyoming covering news at KGWN. My next television stop took me to College Station, Texas where I covered not only news, but sports and athletes like Robert Griffin III, and Von Miller in one of the most dynamic college sporting cities in the country at Texas A&M. It was also in Texas, that I covered the devastating military shooting at Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen, Texas, that enlisted a visit from President Barack Obama.
The next stop, landed me in beautiful Tulsa, Oklahoma where I again reported on both news and sports, covering the likes of University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, the University of Tulsa, and Oral Roberts. However, it was also in Oklahoma that I covered the most heartbreaking story of my career. In 2013, an EF5 tornado tore through Moore, Oklahoma injuring hundreds and taking the lives 24.
In Tulsa, I met the woman who I would fall madly in love with and ask to be my wife. We were both reporters, and we both worked at the same station, but any similarities to the movie ‘Anchorman’ stop right there – although our dogs do resemble Baxter.
In the past few years, since moving to Florida, I’ve been lucky enough to pursue a life-long dream to cover the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team during their run to the World Cup in Brazil, and work as an in-game reporter for the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Now, I look forward to the next exciting chapter, covering news in Central Florida, and telling your stories. When I’m not at work, you can spot my fiancee and I walking our two Yorkies (Cooper, and Winnie) downtown. We love to travel, love to eat, and love new experiences.
