Jennifer Ortega

Jennifer Ortega joined the News 6 team in September 2015 as a reporter and is happy to be back in the Sunshine State, where she grew up.

She comes to Central Florida from Jackson, Mississippi, where she was a reporter for ABC affiliate WAPT-TV.

Before heading to the deep south, Jennifer got her start at WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, where she was a video editor and photographer. Soon after that is when she moved to Columbus, Mississippi, where she reported for WCBI-TV.

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Jennifer couldn't wait to get back to Florida.

Her passion for television came at a very young age. As a teen, she would take her father's camcorder and tape their family vacations.  Then she would get in front of the camera and talk about their adventures, a move that  sparked her desire to become a reporter and tell stories.

Jennifer is a proud graduate of Florida Atlantic University, where she earned her bachelor's in broadcasting journalism with a minor in Spanish.

Before leaving Mississippi, Jennifer received the Outstanding Journalist Award from the Jackson City Council and covered national stories, including the hanging death in Port Gibson, Mississippi, and the controversy about a little girl being kicked out of a KFC.

You'll likely find Jennifer at breaking news scenes, but when she's not reporting, she enjoys going to the beach, cooking and taking her two West Highland terriers, Toby and Emma, to the park.

Jennifer loves meeting new people and getting results, so if you have a story, don't hesitate to send it her way! Just shoot her an email at or reach out to her on Facebook or Twitter.
