Matt Petrillo joined the News 6 team as a reporter in March 2017. Matt came to News 6 from WNEP-TV in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where he had been a reporter since 2015. It snowed two feet there the week after he left for Orlando, and he's happy to be living in warmer weather!
Previously, he was a reporter for WBTW, the CBS station in South Carolina. Petrillo began his career at News13 in Hazleton, PA.
He is a 2012 graduate of Temple University, where he got his start in journalism writing for his school newspaper, The Temple News. During college, he was also a contributor for Philadelphia Weekly, a weekly newspaper in Philly.
Petrillo got into news because he wanted to make a difference in the community where he lives.
“News can be a powerful tool used to improve the way we work and live, and I believe people watch us to do that -- to get results and know what's happening in our area," he said.
He received a Media Advocacy award in 2014 from South Carolina Equality for exposing some homophobic comments made by the mayor of the small South Carolina town of Latta.
Matt loves exploring Central Florida and is often biking in the area. He enjoys reading about politics and roots for the Philadelphia Flyers.
