Nicky Zizaza joined News 6 as a general assignment reporter in December 2018. Nicky is an Emmy nominated reporter who realized at a young age that her life experiences and passion for storytelling would make for a successful career as a journalist.
Originally, from Rwanda, Nicky immigrated to southwest Michigan with her family before the climax of the 1994 Rwandan genocide against the Tutsis. The mass slaughter took the lives of more than 100 of Nicky’s relatives.
She started her career at WJLA/Newschannel 8 as an associate producer in our nation’s capital. She then moved to NBC-25 in Flint, Michigan, where she extensively reported on the Flint Water Crisis as it began to unravel. Most recently, she was a reporter at WWMT in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and covered the Kalamazoo Uber shooting, in addition to visits from then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.
The Michigan native earned a master’s degree from Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University. She also attended Andrews University, where she graduated with high honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in Communication.
Nicky is thrilled to live in a vacation destination with her husband and daughter. When she is not digging up her next story or chasing around a baby, Nicky enjoys shopping, baking and watching movies.
