LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A Salvation Army bell ringer got quite the surprise when he found a rare coin in his kettle outside a Walmart in Indiana.
The worker came across the solid gold coin Wednesday while counting donations. Upon further inspection, the coin was found to be a South African Krugerrand. Its value: about $1,200.
"I think it's awesome, you know. I mean, obviously, somebody went to the effort of collecting this and holding onto this," Salvation Army Lt. Steve Dahl told CBS affiliate WLFI-TV. "They thought that we are a worthy cause to support with it. It's very humbling actually."
It's not known who donated the coin.
