Seminole County deputies host annual back-to-school shopping spree

'It's nice to give back,' Deputy Calix Ancion tells News 6

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Seminole County sheriff's deputies had their annual back-to-schoolshopping spree with kids from the local Boys & Girl's Club.

Each year, they take young students to breakfast at McDonald's or Chick-Fil-A, and then give them $100 to buy school clothes at Walmart to kick off the school year.

Students are able to bond with officers and some service members while picking out their favorite things. Deputy Calix Ancion says it's nice to give back.

“We do get those calls that we go to where the parents and the kids could be struggling,” he said. He added that he hopes they realize how much deputies really do care.

The students got school uniforms, socks, shoes, underclothes and other things. They get to take them home at the end of the day.
