Vandals cut AC cables to Deltona middle school

Repairs could cost $85,000

DELTONA, Fla. – An act of vandalism at a Volusia County school will lead to a costly repair.

Wires to the air conditioning for Heritage Middle School in Deltona were cut last week, officials said.

Deputies said a crew worked on the AC at the school, but after the job was done, someone cut the cables.

"Because there is a temporary chiller, it did not affect the air conditioning for our students," Volusia County Schools spokeswoman Nancy Wait said.

A supervisor told investigators the repairs could cost as much as $225,000 if the cables need to be replaced. That figure was later determined to be $85,000.

No arrests have been made.

An investigation is continuing.
