News 6 teamed up with Publix and A Gift For Teaching to get results for students in Central Florida with a phone bank on Thursday that raised $20,838, exceeding the $20,000 goal.
Those donations will go toward helping more than 216,000 children in need in our community.
As students return to school, many are without essential supplies, including paper and pencils to learn and succeed.
Sometimes, teachers use their own money to help.
The Central Florida community called the News 6 phone bank between 5 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday, and volunteers took donations to help teachers get results for their students in the 2017-18 school year.
Every dollar that was donated will help supply $20 worth of school supplies.
Anyone who missed the phone bank but would still like to donate can text "AGFT" to 243725.
News 6, Publix, A Gift For Teaching and you are getting results for Central Florida.
