Proposal would offer free tuition at Florida colleges

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A new proposal filed by a South Florida State Representative would pay full tuition for many students at state colleges.

WJXT reports Rep. Shevrin Jones (D) filed bill HB-181 on Monday, which would create the Sunshine Scholarship Program.

If the proposal was passed, the program would pay 100 percent of tuition costs at state colleges for students whose household incomes are $125,000 or less.

Students in the program would have to live and work in the state for an unspecified period of time after finishing school.

The legislature will begin considering the proposal when the next session begins in January.
