D.J. Charles named Athlete of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. – A junior fullback from Doctor Phillips ran 99 yards for a score that got him named “Athlete of the Week” for week 2.

The Doctor Phillips Panthers were clinging on to a 21-17 lead over the Lake Mary Rams on Friday when a junior fullback got the ball and sprinted 99 yards for the score that sealed the team victory.

D. J. Charles matched the longest touchdown run in the history of Doctor Phillips Panthers. He also helped lead the Panthers to their 35th straight regular season win, which is a new school record.

"It feels real good," said Charles after the game, "I believed in my linemen. We got good blocking and I just thank God."

Charles, who plays defense as well, also snagged an interception which ended a Lake Mary threat earlier in the game.
