Athlete of Week: Trinity Prep's Jared Herron

Jared Herron is everything Trinity Prep head coach Mike Kruczak wants in a quarterback.

Herron can throw. He can run and he leads fearlessly.

"He is the guy. He is the one who makes it go," said Kruczak with a laugh, "I think his confidence and the way he plays the game rubs off on everybody else."

At 6 feet tall and 225 pounds, Herron has the ability to bulldoze through defenses.

"I love...I love running into people," said Herron, "That's my favorite thing to do."

"We call a quarterback designated run or read and he runs the ball, don't get in his way," added Kruczak.

Orangewood Christian found that out Friday night. The bruising quarterback could not be stopped. Herron ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more in a big Trinity Prep victory.

Herron, a senior, has helped put the 7-1 Saints in position to win their first district title since 1977.

"It's been great," said Herron. "This season, I mean, I couldn't ask for better teammates, better offensive front, better coaching staff. 6 & 4 the past two years, now we're 7 & 1, this season, I mean, I've had a blast. It's awesome."

When the football season ends, Herron trades in his helmet for a catcher's mask. Baseball is actually his stronger sport and he'll play for Florida State next year.
