ORLANDO, Fla. – Guests gathered at Universal’s Island of Adventures for Wednesday's official opening of Universal Orlando Resort’s newest attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong.

The attraction brings the next generation King Kong’s legend to life on a brand new scale.

The adventure starts when guests are transported into a mysterious world and begin their mission to discover creatures with unknown origin. The guests work with the 8th World Wonder Company, the research team leading the excursion.

After exploring ancient temple ruins and encountering hostile natives, guests board a 40-foot-long, 17-ton expedition vehicle to navigate through increasingly intense terrain. The special vehicle, which operates on a trackless ride system, brings guests deeper into the ominous island, where they quickly find themselves caught in a struggle between large beasts and then face-to-face with Kong, who is three stories tall.

On Thursday, Universal Orlando’s fifth on-site hotel, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, will also welcome its first guests. The resort consists of 1000 rooms, designed to have the feel of a Caribbean hideaway, and will feature the destination’s largest resort-style pool with a water slide, cabanas and a fire pit.

The pool is surrounded by two sand beaches, a waterfall and a lagoon, which will take guests to both of Universal Orlando’s theme parks and CityWalk by water taxi.
