Brevard County artist designs Hugh Hefner tribute Playboy cover

Pop-art cover hits stands Tuesday

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Eau Gallie artist Derek Gores designed the special edition Playboy magazine cover dedicated to the late Hugh Hefner.

After Hefner, who founded Playboy in 1953, died in September at age 91, Gores reached out to the publication offering his services, reports News 6 partner Florida Today.

Gores’ pop surrealism art design will cover the 120-page tribute edition that hits newsstands Tuesday. The cover is composed of hundreds of bits of paper from the Playboy magazine archives, which form a portrait of a young Hefner smoking a pipe.

Gore, a Brevard native, graduated from Satellite High School in 1989 and studied art at the Rhode Island School of Design. Today, Gores' art is on display in galleries across the globe, including LUMAS Berlin and ArtClub Gallery in Paris.
