ORWIGSBURG, Penn. - Some northeastern grocers will be stocking up on Yuengling next month, but in the frozen food aisles.

Thursday, the first batch of Yuengling's Ice Cream rolled off the production line en route to Pennsylvania grocery stores, according to a release from the brand. The sweet treat, which was created in 1920, has been on a production hiatus since 1986.

"It's a very exciting time for us," David Yuengling, company president, said in a release. "We originally expected production to begin in March, but when we announced in September that we were bringing back Yuengling's Ice Cream, the response was so enthusiastic that we pushed up production."

Produced by Leiby's Dairy in Tamaqua, Penn., the ice cream will come in 10 flavors, and its initial distribution will consist of 100,000 quarts. According to the release, the ice cream is made of all-natural ingredients, with cream and milk sourced locally in Pennsylvania. In addition to traditional flavors, Yuengling Ice Cream will be available in Root Beer Float, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Black and Tan.

The desert is slated to be available in mid-February, and will cost between $5.49 and $5.99 per quart. Initial distribution will be to select grocers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and West Virginia, and a store locator will be available on the company website later this month, according to the release.

"Acme, Weis and other independent grocers asked to have Yuengling's Ice Cream before the original launch date," said Rob Bohorad, Yuengling chief operating officer, said in the release. "We bumped up production to accommodate them, but we fully anticipate being in more grocery stores later this year."

Though both Yuengling Ice Cream and Yuengling Brewery are owned by the same family, the ice cream store is not affiliated with America's oldest brewery.
