Orlando man thanks caregiver who changed his life

Donna Brown saw stranger in need, now he's her best friend

ORLANDO, Fla. – Caregiver Donna Brown is this week's News 6 Getting Results Award winner.

Brown has been helping Bill McClelland, of Orlando, with daily chores and health care for two years.

The two were introduced by a mutual friend when McClelland needed a ride to the eye doctor.

"I was told by just about everybody that I need to quit driving," McClelland said, describing his failing vision.

McClelland got ill shortly after that and Brown began visiting him at the hospital. Their friendship grew from there.

"I look at him like a father," Brown said. "Everybody needs someone in their life."

Brown stops by every day to check on him. She prepares lunch and makes sure he's taking his medicine.

McClelland said he was at a point of giving up before Brown came into his life. Failing health and trouble with insurance were taking their toll.

He nominated Brown for the Getting Results Award as a way of saying thank you.

"I feel so sorry that I don't have any money to pay her," he said. " I wish I did because she deserves something."

"I know he appreciates it. He tells me all the time," Brown said. "That, to me, is gratification."
