2 new Zika cases confirmed in Florida

Total number of Zika cases in state up to 18


TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Two new cases of Zika were reported in Florida on Thursday, according to officials from the Florida Department of Health.

The additional cases were reported in Lee County and Miami-Dade counties, bringing the total number of cases in Florida to 18.

The following counties have confirmed cases of Zika:

  • Broward: 2
  • Hillsborough: 3
  • Lee: 3
  • Miami-Dade: 7
  • Osceola: 1
  • Santa Rosa: 1
  • St. Johns: 1

All cases are travel-related and none involve pregnant women, officials said.

Zika symptoms are generally mild and can include a rash, fever and joint pain. CDC researchers are examining a possible link between the virus and harm to unborn babies exposed during pregnancy, health officials said.
