Want to buy Medicare? Enrollment is open
Non-Medicare Florida residents can buy health insurance through feds
MIAMI – The enrollment period for buying Medicare is now open for qualifying seniors.
Non-Medicare Florida residents can also soon buy health insurance through the federal government.
Medicare enrollment runs through Dec. 7. More than 40 percent of Florida's seniors are on Medicare Advantage plans.
This time of year can be a little confusing with enrollment dates. The enrollment period for non-Medicare also known as Obamacare starts in November and runs through Dec. 15. Florida once again led enrollment in the federal exchange, with 1.7 million consumers last season. Premiums in that market should be relatively low compared to previous years.
The state's largest insurer, Florida Blue, requested a meager increase of less than half a percent. The other nine insurers requested to raise their rates by an average of about 5 percent compared to an average increase of 45 percent last year.
