Good dog? Golden retriever digs up $85K of heroin

Dog praised for discovery with K-9 honor

A golden retriever followed his nose -- and ended up being honored for digging in his owners' yard.

Kenyon the dog recently dug up $85,000 worth of black tar heroin in an Oregon family’s backyard, KATU reported.

At first, the family thought he unburied a time capsule. They pulled out a camera, hoping to document themselves opening it.

When the contents appeared to be some type of drug, the family called the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities identified the substance as more than 15 ounces of heroin.

Sheriff Tim Svenson praised the dog for the discovery, presenting him with an official Yamhill County K-9 citation ribbon and naming him an honorary narcotics dog, KATU reported.
