Man, dog saved from flooded creek in dramatic rescue

Firefighters use ladder to pull duo to safety

Colorado firefighters pulled a man and his dog to safety after his vehicle was overtaken by a creek that quickly flooded after thunderstorms Sunday.

KDVR reported that the creek bed had been dry, but water rapidly flooded the area, trapping the man and his dog. The Fremont County Sheriff's Office caught the dramatic rescue on video.

The Florence Fire Department used a ladder truck to reach the SUV, which was stationary but surrounded by the muddy, raging water.

The man, in a life jacket, first tied rope around his dog and pushed the pet out of the car and into the hands of the firefighter.

The man then joined the rescuer and the dog on the ladder, which was retracted and moved to shore. The group walked off the ladder and cracked jokes with the crew below.

No one was injured, the Sheriff's Office told KDVR.
