Seminole County commissioners approve property tax hike

Revenue from increase will fund fire stations

SANFORD, Fla. – Seminole County commissioners voted Tuesday night to approve an increase in property taxes for homeowners.

The county's millage rate will go up as much as 11 percent for homeowners in unincorporated Seminole County, Winter Springs, Altamonte Springs and Casselberry.

Commissioners say the increase is needed to help fund fire stations. The county used reserve funds to pay for them over the last several years, but leaders say the funds are now too low.

Homeowners should expect to see the change on their tax bills in November.
