PALM BAY, Fla. – A man hoping to check on a package at his parents' Palm Bay home Tuesday afternoon instead discovered the couple's bodies inside the residence, News 6 partner Florida Today reported.
Palm Bay police are conducting a suspicious death investigation at the single-story home in the southeast section of the city. Multiple police cars were called out about 1 p.m. in the area of the 900 block of Brocksmith Street, just north of Jupiter Boulevard.
Police said Jennifer Lawrence, 68, and Charles Lawrence Jr., 60, were found dead in the home. "It does not look like it's random," said Lt. Mike Bandish of the Palm Bay Police Department.
Officials said Wednesday afternoon that Charles Lawrence killed his wife then killed himself and they do not believe anyone else was involved in the crime.
The son initially went to the house to check on a package, he told police. Neighbors said the couple had a son who died two years ago.
Police are not commenting on the circumstances leading up to the couple's deaths.
Diane Linda Clark has known the couple for around 15 years, and said they were extremely kind people. She's shocked by their deaths.
An investigation is ongoing.
