Man shot on Mother's Day killed in separate shooting, family says

Frashane Thompson shot at Metro Place Apartments during alleged home invasion

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man who was shot on Mother’s Day was killed Tuesday in a separate shooting at the same Orlando apartment complex, the victim’s family told News 6.

Orlando police Lt. Thomas Woodhall said police responded just after 7:30 a.m. to the Metro Place Apartments on Kirkman Road and found one person dead.

Geoff Etienne said that a man, who was later identified to News 6 as 28-year-old Frashane Thompson, walked into his apartment with a gun demanding money.

“I see a guy standing in the living room with a pistol, and he pointed the gun at my roommate,” Etienne said. "All he said was, ‘Give me everything!”

Etienne said Thompson tried to shoot at him twice, but the gun misfired. As his roommate went into his room to give Thompson money, he pulled out his own gun.

Thompson fled, but the roommate followed and shot him, Etienne said.

“I thought around 7:30 (when) it woke me up it was actually fireworks, but it wasn’t. It was gunshots,” an apartment complex resident said. “I don’t know how many times, but I thought it was fireworks and it’s so sad.”

Thompson’s sister confirmed to News 6 that he was the man shot and killed at the apartment complex on July Fourth.

She also said Thompson is the same man who was injured on Mother’s Day in a separate shooting. Police said someone came into Thompson’s apartment and shot him in the arm. He escaped more gunfire by jumping out of his second-story window.
