2 dead in separate Thanksgiving Day crashes on Florida's Turnpike, troopers say

Both crashes happened in Osceola County

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – Two people died in separate crashes on  Florida's Turnpike Thanksgiving morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the first crash happened in the southbound lanes near mile marker 249 at about 5 a.m. Randy Washington, 27, of Orlando, was driving on the exit ramp to Osceola Parkway when he suddenly changed lanes into the direct path of another vehicle, according to authorities.

Washington suffered serious injuries when his vehicle was rear-ended, the report said. His passenger, 28-year-old Macson Cadet, of Orlando, died at an area hospital. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The second crash happened at 11:50 a.m. near mile marker 212. Troopers said a Ford Explorer with 10 people inside was traveling southbound when the driver was cut off by another vehicle that made an abrupt lane change.

The driver of the Explorer lost control and flipped multiple times, ejecting several people. Troopers said 39-year-old Thelma Domingo died at the scene and the other nine occupants, including five children, were taken to area hospitals.

Troopers said the nine other occupants in the vehicle are expected to survive. 

Both crashes are under investigation.
