1 killed, 1 injured after trying to help trapped driver

Fatal crash snarls Interstate 4 traffic Saturday

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers say one person was killed and another was injured Saturday morning, shutting down westbound lanes for several hours.

Troopers said 46-year-old Marc Marcceus was killed and 26-year-old Maleah Meyers was seriously injured when they stopped to help an accident victim.

A car overturned at Interstate 4 and Central Florida Parkway and a woman was still trapped inside, according to FHP.

Troopers said another car, driven by 42-year-old Carlos Torres, was headed west and lost control of his car when another car ahead of him applied their brakes.

Torres hit Meyers and Marcceus, troopers said. Meyers was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center and listed in serious condition. Marcceus died at the scene.

Troopers asked people to drive carefully as the rain continued to move across the Central Florida area.

All lanes were opened late Saturday morning.
