10-year-old boy's dance at high school game goes viral

Seth Vangeldren busted out in dance at Spruce Creek High School basketball game

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Seth Vangeldren, 10, is now being recognized in public after he danced at a Spruce Creek High School basketball game.

He said it all started in his room, with his phone, his earbuds and some moves.

"I've been dancing for a year," Seth said. "I think it took me a week or two to get the full song down."

He told News 6 he learned the routines off social media.

"He goes in his room and he won't come out until he's perfected it, and then he comes out and shows us, but he won't do it outside the house," his mother, Michele Slater, said.

It was a big surprise to his mother when Seth jumped up in public during the game and took on the crowd.

"It was actually cool, because I didn't think they would stop the game and dance with me," Seth said. "I didn't see many people videotaping me because I was focusing on my dance."

His mother had just left the game, leaving Seth with his older sister.

"My daughter called me up and said, 'You're never going to believe what happened," Slater said. "She's like, 'Seth got up and danced. The basketball players stopped, everybody stopped.' I cried like three times. I was like, 'What?' I said, 'What made you do it?' He said, 'It was your favorite song and I was thinking of you.' I missed it!"

The fifth-grader stole the spotlight at the game, and the video of him dancing posted to social media spread like wildfire. The video was retweeted more than 50,000 times.

"I felt nervous at first, but once everybody was with me I felt confident," Seth said.

Seth said now people have been recognizing him at school and at the park.

"Five people ran up to me and said, 'Can you do this dance again?'" he said.

People have been asking him if he's the kid that went viral and then ask for a picture with him.

"I'm so proud that he's mine," Slater said. "I'm glad he got up and did it."

Seth said since he's danced at the game, he's more confident to dance in public. He said he wants to be a hip-hop dancer when he grows up.
