10-year-old child dies in Marion County mobile home fire

OCKLAWAHA, Fla. - A 10-year-old child died and a 1-year-old child was hospitalized after a mobile home caught fire early Thursday, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to the mobile home at 5630 SE 183rd Avenue Road in Ocklawaha at 2:58 a.m. The mobile home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.

Two adults and three juveniles escaped the fire. A 1-year-old child was airlifted to UF Health in Gainesville and is in stable condition.

A 10-year-old child was found dead inside the mobile home after the flames were extinguished. 

The state fire marshal and Marion County Sheriff's Office major crimes detectives are investigating the cause of the fire and the death of the child.
