15-foot deep sinkhole opens in Marion County

Home voluntarily evacuated

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A 15-foot deep sinkhole opened in a Marion County subdivision around 3 a.m. Tuesday, deputies said.

The hole is inside the Rolling Greens subdivision, meaning it is on private property so the homeowner's associated will be responsible for filling the hole.

A home about 15 feet from the hole was voluntarily evacuated.

As of 2 p.m. Tuesday, the hole was 30 feet long, 30 feet wide and 15 feet deep.

A picture from the scene showed that the hole swallowed a stop sign from the intersection where it formed.
