DELTONA, Fla. - An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being shot Monday evening, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies said an 11-year-old child called to report that the man, who was not identified, was shot in the arm and shoulder near the intersection of Fort Smith and India boulevards in Deltona just before 5:20 p.m.

The victim, who could be heard yelling in the 911 call, told dispatch he was shot in his right arm by someone in a vehicle.

The child told dispatch the victim was bleeding "badly" after the shooting.

The man was airlifted to a hospital in Sanford, deputies said. Details on his condition were not immediately known.

Deputies said weeks after the incident that the man who was shot, 18-year-old Stevie Knight, was arrested on a charge of possession of a weapon by a delinquent/felon.

Detectives said they found images of Knight with an AR-15 rifle and a revolver, even though a juvenile criminal records means he cannot own weapons.
