The incident took place at 12:40 p.m. near Madison Avenue and Beach Street.

The victims told officers that the woman was driving, and she picked up the man at the Citgo gas station at West International Speedway and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards. The pair headed east, ending up at Madison and Beach.

As the two left the Citgo, the woman’s boyfriend started following them, police said.

At some point, the woman and her male friend confronted the boyfriend, which is when the man went back to his vehicle and retrieved a 9-mm handgun. The boyfriend then shot at the pair, but neither of them were hit by any bullets, police said.

The shooter and a passenger he was with then took off. Officers found his car some time later, but the boyfriend and the other man had abandoned the vehicle.

Police caught up with those two about an hour later, just before 5 p.m.

Both men were arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm.

“No further information will be released this evening,” officers said in a news release. “The charging affidavit will be released once it is completed.”
