Man in wheelchair killed

ORLANDO, Fla. – A vehicle hit a woman and the man she was pushing in a wheelchair Wednesday afternoon as they were waiting to use the crosswalk near Florida Hospital in Loch Haven Park, the Orlando Police Department said.

The man,  52-year-old Victor Cruz, was killed, and the woman, 52-year-old Evelyn Cruz, was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries.

The crash happened at North Orange Avenue and King Street when a woman driving a Nissan Rogue hit a vehicle that was in front of her as she was waiting to turn left, police said. That driver, identified as Annet Joy McNeir, 43, then traveled onto the sidewalk and hit Victor and Evelyn Cruz, according to a news release.

The vehicle continued into oncoming traffic, where it hit another vehicle, police said.

McNeir remained at the scene, but was later taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.
