Man sought in Daytona Beach drive-by shooting

Cops: 2 shooting scenes investigated, suspect found hiding in apartment

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach police are looking for a man who they said injured four people during a drive-by shooting on Tuesday night and believe he's also responsible for a deadly shooting that happened last Mother's Day.

Tattered crime scene tape surrounded a home on Sheridan Drive after police said 28-year-old Rakim Watson pulled up in a stolen car and shot three teens and a man who were standing outside the home.

"When you do a drive by shooting, you have two 9mm and an AK 47, you're certainly not going there to trick or treat. You're there because you're looking to do some damage. Fortunately nobody was killed," said Chief Mike Chitwood.

Police said two of the victims who are women, just happened to be there.

"They had been at Taco Bell and they picked up food. They were going to the Sheridan Street address when the drive by shooting occurred," said Chitwood.

Officers from Daytona police and South Daytona chased the car to an apartment complex on Palmetto Drive where police said they arrested Watson's brother, 28-year-old Ricardo Watson for breaking into a unit.

Meanwhile, police said Rakim Watson got away and they believe he's out for revenge.

"Rakim Watson is our prime suspect in the murder of Deandre Smith who was killed during Mother's Day, driving over the Oakridge Bridge," said Chitwood.

Police said it's been a battle between the families ever since.

"There have been shootings back and forth. We've been getting information about them, we would respond and you have shell casings but no victims and nobody would be calling us, because you have the Deandre Smith faction and this Watson faction lining up against one another doing battle," said Chitwood.

A warrant is out for Watson's arrest and police said until someone comes forward with information, the gun battle will continue.

"That's the message the community sends when they allow these thugs and these punks to run rough side over the community and I tell you, I've had it," said Chitwood.

The victims in the drive by shooting suffered non life threatening injuries.
