Port Orange's longtime public works director could be fired

ORLANDO – Port Orange's public works director could be fired after his 16-year-old son and a friend were arrested on charges of stealing city property.

The Daytona Beach News Journal reports Warren Pike was suspended with pay last month. Police say they discovered his son and a friend took more than $16,000 worth of city property which included a golf car and police car light bars.

A hearing is set for Monday to allow Pike the chance to defend himself.

Pike, who has been a city employee for 30 years, received a written warning in 2002 for allowing city employees to use city vehicles, equipment and facilities for their personal use.
