Victim identity released in fatal SR 44 crash
Both driver, passenger not wearing seatbelts, police say
DeLAND, Fla. – DeLand police have released the names of those involved in the fatal State Road 44 rollover crash on Friday morning.
Police said Kevin G. Hunter, 20, the driver, was pronounced dead on scene. Passenger Chad L. Marsall, 21, was taken to Halifax Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies said at around 4 a.m. Friday morning a white 2000 Toyota Tundra truck was driving eastbound of S.R. 44 when the truck flipped off multiple times.
Neither Hunter nor Marshall were wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the truck, deputies said.
Video from Sky 6 showed police and fire rescue at the scene and a white pickup truck overturned on the shoulder.
Authorities diverted eastbound and westbound traffic through one lane, which caused backups. Orange Camp Road was used as an alternate route. S.R. 44 was reopened later Monday morning.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
