Waffle House 911 misdial nets drug arrest

Police search car, find crack cocaine

PALM BAY, Fla. – A woman and man suspected of carrying out a drug deal in front of a Waffle House were arrested after Palm Bay police said the woman accidentally dialed 911, letting dispatchers listen to the deal.

The incident occurred Wednesday after a witness called police to report a drug deal taking place in front of the Waffle House on Malabar Road. The eyewitness then followed the man and woman as they got into a car and drove off.

Officers spotted the vehicle and pulled the car over on Underhill Road. Officers then informed the pair that their conversation about drugs was being recorded by 911 operators.

Police said the woman didn't know her phone was dialing. Police did not know if the woman accidentally "bumped" or "butt-dialed" the phone.

Police searched the car and found three small bags of crack cocaine. The pair was arrested and taken to the Brevard County Detention Center in Sharpes.
