Child accidentally shoots self at UPS Store

5-year-old is grandson of Ocoee store owner


OCOEE, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy accidentally shot himself Monday morning at a UPS Store in Ocoee, police told Local 6.

The shooting happened at 13750 W. Colonial Dr.

The boy, who's the grandson of the store's owner, grabbed the pistol from the top of a counter and shot himself in the arm, according to police.  His injuries were not life-threatening. 

The boy's father was in the store at the time, and rushed his son to the hospital in his own car.

After the shooting, a customer flagged down a Florida Highway Patrol trooper.

The grandfather told police he keeps the loaded gun in his store for personal security.

It's not known if charges will be filed in the case.
