Child in good condition, authorities say

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured after a rough wave crashed into a chartered fishing boat and knocked him unconscious near Cape Canaveral, authorities said.

The captain alerted authorities and returned the boat back to a dock at Port Canaveral along the 500 block of Glen Cheek Drive at Port Canaveral, an area where several fishing charter boats are based.

Paramedics issued a pediatric alert and requested a medical helicopter to take the boy from Freddie Patrick Park near the public boat ramps at Sunrise Marina.

The child was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando for further treatment. He was released Thursday afternoon in good condition, officials said.

An investigation is ongoing.

The National Weather Service in Melbourne reported seas three to four feet with southwest winds of 10 to 15 knots.
