'Smart meters' could save money, but cause privacy concerns

But already, the whole thing is causing some concerns about privacy and safety.

The company is sending out postcards, which advertise new 'smart meters'.

They're being installed on homes in the county.

FPL says the meters are connected to a much more advanced power grid.

They can spot potential problems much sooner and prevent blackouts and outages.

You can also get live updates online about how much power you're using each month, and how much it's costing you.

But some homeowners tell Local 6 news partner Florida Today that the meters are putting their cyber security at risk, and they don't trust the promises of savings.

The company insists that all your personal information is protected online.
