DeLAND, Fla. – A woman's head was covered and she was forced to the floor during a DeLand home invasion that occurred while her two children were sleeping, deputies said.

The robbery occurred about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home in the in 1500 block of Elasser Street.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, a 24-year-old woman was sleeping on a couch when she was awakened by a loud bang.  As she got up, she was confronted by a man who entered her home through a sliding glass door, deputies said.

The man pointed a gun at the woman and told her not to move while another man placed a towel or blanket over her head, deputies said.

The intruders demanded money as they searched throughout the house, according to deputies.

A few minutes later, when it became quiet, the woman got up and discovered the men had left, taking two of her televisions, her cellphone and some jewelry, deputies said.

The woman ran next door for help, according to deputies, who said that her children, a 3-year-old and 6-year-old, remained asleep in their rooms throughout the incident.

Officials released the 911 calls, where the woman described the incident.

"Somebody just had me at gun point. I need the police please," the woman said. "They had a towel over my head, so I couldn't see. I don't know it was like two or three people."

The neighbor, who doesn't want to be identified, told Local 6 the woman rushed over to his home and used his phone to call authorities.

"They took her phone and she was screaming and her 3-year-old son came out of his room. She told him to go back to his room," the neighbor said.

"She was terrified because you don't know what's going to happen with having two kids. I thank the lord she is ok and her kids are safe. It could have been tragic," the neighbor said.
