FHP: Man, 74, dies when 2 pickups collide
Driver turned into path of oncoming pickup in Sanford, FHP says
SANFORD, Fla. – A 74-year-old man was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash in Seminole County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Bill Haddix, of Sanford, was killed in the crash, which occurred around 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of State Road 46 and Ross Lake Lane, the FHP said.
According to troopers, Haddix's pickup truck was stopped at the intersection and as he made a left turn onto SR 46, he drove into the path of a pickup driven by Ronald Ekins, 69, of Ormond Beach.
The front of Ekins' truck hit the left side of Haddix's pickup, troopers said.
Haddix, who was not wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he died, the FHP said.
The crash remains under investigation.
