Fire destroys Fort Christmas home, horse ranch

No injuries reported, officials say

LAKE JEM, Fla. – An Orange County horse ranch with residents and several horses on the property was destroyed in a fire.

Firefighters reported to the Fort Christmas home on Silver Star Ranch at around 2:40 p.m. Friday to find a 2,500-3,000 square foot home engulfed in flames.

The contents of the second smaller home on the property were able to be saved.

There were no reports of injuries, according to the fire officials. The residents of both homes will be staying with relatives.

Meanwhile, Lake County authorities are working to put out a brush fire that ignited near Lake Jem.

Lake County fire officials said the fire has scorched about 75 acres and is about 50 percent controlled.  It began off County Road 448A around 2 p.m.

2 vacant structures have been affected by the fire but no structures with occupants have been affected.

No other information was immediately available.
