Melbourne police search for man

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police are looking for a man who robbed a Publix before it opened after asking a manager about a job.

The man approached the manager outside the store at 1411 Babcock Street around 6:40 a.m. Friday, according to Melbourne police.

The man asked about a job, and the manager told him to come back when the store opened at 7 a.m., Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.

The man lifted then his shirt and showed the manager a handgun, ordering him inside the store, police said.

Police said the man fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash in an older model Ford Explorer or Bronco.

The man was described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds in his late 30s or 40s. He was wearing a blue, striped shirt, jeans and a baseball hat at the time, police said.
