Dry conditions, cigarette possible cause for brush fire

Daytona Beach fire officials believe discarded cigarette played role in brush fire

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Daytona Beach fire officials said they believe an improperly discarded cigarette may have played a role into Sunday's brush fire.

Fire officials responded to the blaze near the area of North Williamson Blvd. and the Indigo Golf Course on Sunday.

Northbound lanes of Williamson Blvd. were shut down Sunday while crews worked to contain the brush fire.

The department says the brush fire was extinguished before any evacuations were forced.

Investigators believe both a discarded cigarette and extremely dry conditions caused the fire based on the burn pattern.
