Orange County Library System receives $1 million gift

Ken Melrose giving largest private gift

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orange County Library system received a $1 million gift, the largest single private gift in its history.

Ken Melrose made the donation for the creation of the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center of Technology, Innovation & Creativity.

The donation was announced Monday evening during a ceremony at the library.

The center will feature labs for visual arts, film, digital media, graphic design, and audio engineering.

Melrose grew up in Orlando and named the center after his mother.

According to the county, Melrose's mother was heavily involved in the construction of the Orlando Public Library in the 1960s.

Renovations at the library are expected to begin immediately.
