Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run crash

Woman killed in Orlando crash

ORLANDO, Fla. – Authorities arrested a California woman Wednesday morning in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Orlando.

Jennifer Gerette Toth, 43, of San Jose, was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with death.

The fatal crash happened late Tuesday at the intersection of Apopka Vineland Road and Meadow Creek Drive, just south of Interstate 4 in Orlando.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old woman from China was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a 2011 Nissan Altima.  Witnesses told troopers that Toth ran a red light, hit the woman and drove off.

The victim was taken to Dr. Phillips Hospital and was pronounced dead.

Toth contacted authorities Wednesday morning, saying she was involved in a crash, possibly with an animal, the FHP said.

Troopers talked to Toth at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, and she told them her car was located behind a business off Vineland Road.  She said she had taken a cab to the hotel.

Troopers found the vehicle and Toth was arrested.  Other charges are pending, the FHP said.
