PORT ORANGE, Fla. – Port Orange police have arrested a man they say held a woman, who was trying to help him after he injured himself slashing his estranged wife's tires, at knifepoint for seven hours.
Police said Douglas Fink, 40, was served with an injunction for protection by his estranged wife on Monday and was seeking revenge by slashing the tires of a car at her house on Monroe Place when he cut himself.
A woman told police Fink approached her and said he needed help, so she went into her home to get him a glass of water. According to the report, she forgot to lock her door behind her and that's when Fink followed her inside and held her at knifepoint.
Police said Fink was in the victim's home for seven hours trying to get a ride and using her phone. He got a ride and then was dropped off at Halifax Hospital for his cut, where police found him.
Fink has been charged with false imprisonment, aggravated assault, violation of an injunction for protection and criminal mischief. He's being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on no bond.
