Governor allows new state university in Florida

Branch campus of USF to become its own school

LAKELAND, Fla. – Florida is getting a new state university.

Governor Rick Scott signed a bill into law on Friday that will create the 12th public university in Florida.

He's allowing a branch campus of the University of South Florida in Lakeland to become its own school.

The campus will now be called Florida Polytechnic University.

The school will have a strong focus on science, technology, engineering, and math.
