According to police reports, Balderas told employees at the daycare she spanks the child because the child wets their pants. Balderas told the director of the school she hit the child because the toddler was "driving her crazy."

Investigators found marks on the toddler's back and buttocks that were consistent with being struck by a loop-shaped object such as belt or a cord. Balderas told police she and her husband, Roberto, physically discipline the children rarely and they use a sandal.

Balderas has been charged with cruelty toward a child and is being held at the Orange County Jail. The children are in DCF custody and the investigation is continuing.
