Disney's Tree of Life closed after branch falls off

Nature trail temporarily closed, no injuries

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – A small branch fell off of the Tree of Life at Animal Kingdom, according to Walt Disney World officials.

Officials said the incident happened on Saturday. The Tree of Life Nature Trails and the "It's Tough to be a Bug" movie are closed temporarily as the park conducts a full inspection and completes repairs.

No one was injured in the branch's falling.

The Tree is the park's 14-story icon, stretching 50 feet in diameter with branches 165 feet reaching 165 feet. Built on the shell of a modified oil rig, it features "bark" made up of 325 hand-carved animals. There are  102,583 green leaves leaves on the tree's 45 secondary branches, 756 tertiary branches, and 7,891 end branches.

Thousands worked on the construction of the Tree of Life which took 18 months to build. 20 artists carved the 325 animals into the trunk, branches and roots.
